Marvin earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in Secondary Education and History from Concordia University Wisconsin in 2004. He began his career in education teaching Advanced Placement History courses at the Martin Luther High School in Queens, NY. He also served as the Chairperson of the History Department. Continuing his education, Marvin completed graduate work and earned a Masters in Education degree, specializing in School Building Leadership, from St. John's University. Thereafter, he served as the Assistant Principal at Peninsula Preparatory Academy Charter School in Queens, NY leading over twelve teachers and 500 grade K-5 students. His passion for education led him to join a dynamic team and start up Brooklyn Prospect Charter School, an International Baccalaureate program in Brooklyn, NY. As the Assistant Principal of School Culture, he built a comprehensive discipline code of conduct and positive school climate for students in grade 6-12. Having demonstrated the ability to not only lead and administrate, Marvin became interested in working with at risk youth to focus his efforts with student that he felt need the most attention. As such, Marvin moved to Chicago, IL in 2013 to begin work with Youth Connections Charter School (YCCS). YCCS is a consortium of alternative high schools that service the most at risk young adults aged 16- 21 years old. In his work with YCCS, Marvin elevated a level 2 school to a level 1 school rating in just two short years, improving performance on key indicators of academic competency, attendance, credit attainment and graduation rate. Currently, Marvin continued his work with YCCS as the Assistant Principal of Progressive Leadership Academy (PLA). PLA’s mission is to develop student academically and fortify a sense of culture and community in the Parkway Gardens neighborhood of the south side of Chicago. After serving two years at PLA, Marvin moved on to his current position, where he serves as Staff Development Coordinator for all of the YCCS schools. In his free time, Marvin enjoys watching documentaries, reading history and culture books, playing chess and biking. He is also an avid football and basketball fan. Lastly, he enjoys all things from NYC, his hometown.
